Today we celebrate the birth of our nation. 241 years ago, 56 delegates from the American colonies signed their name to a declaration that stood in the face of tyranny.
These brave men, along with the citizens of the colonies, refused to accept the dictates of an oppressive government. Rather, they boldly proclaimed and codified the natural rights of mankind and threw off their oppressors.
We should use today to celebrate that bravery and brilliance; the courageous men who initiated the experiment of the United States. Since that day in 1776, millions of men and women have answered the call to continue defending liberty and challenging oppression. We will follow on in this spirit, defending freedom and caring for those who protect out liberties.
